INVENTORY ORGANIZATIONS
Before we can begin any setups in Oracle Inventory, we should familiarize ourselves with some basic terminology. An Inventory Organization is any facility in which you store and transact items. There must be one or more Inventory ORGs setup before we can assign inventory. An Inventory ORG can be a physical entity such as a Warehouse or a Distribution Center. It can be a logical entity such as a Master Item Organization, in which we define items
ACTION PATH: Inventory -> SETUP -> ORGANIZATIONS -> LOCATIONS
This setup defines your location. Without a location, you will not be able to setup any inventory organizations, which is a key component within the Inventory Module.
ACTION PATH: Inventory -> SETUP -> ORGANIZATIONS -> ORGANIZATIONS
THEN CLICK “NEW(A)” in the FIND ORGANIZATION window
Now that we have defined a location in the above step, we can assign our inventory organization to that location. Without an Inventory Org, we cannot assign any inventory (raw material, service, etc.).
NOW CLICK “OTHERS” in the ORGANIZATON window, and then select ACCOUNT INFORMATION
It is from here you can assign accounting related information to your Inventory ORG. This is all optional information and can be done thru the General Ledger responsibility also. This information should be coming from a financials expert at your company.
ACTION PATH: OTHERS -> INVENTORY INFORMATION -> INVENTORY PARAMETERS
Now we can see what inventory parameters there are going to be associated to our Inventory ORG. Keep in mind any field that is YELLOW is required. All others are optional. Some of these are optional setups and can be done at a later time. These parameters are information you should get from an Inventory supervisor or someone in a similar role (warehouse manager, etc.).
ACTION PATH: COSTING INFORMATION
In this window you will fill out costing information accounts for our Inventory ORG. These should be supplied by a financials’ expert. It can look something like this:
ACTION PATH: OTHER ACCOUNTS
On this screen you can enter some mandatory information on Other Accounts, such as Receiving accounts, Profit and Loss accounts, etc. Information should be once again supplied by a financials’ expert.
The next 2 tabs (REVISION, LOT, SERIAL, and LPN) and (ATP, PICK, ITEM-SOURCING), can all be filled in, but are not required. The values for these fields should come from a warehouse manager, or a manufacturing expert in your company, and can look something like this:
ACTION PATH: OTHERS -> RECEIVING INFORMATION
On this form can you enter your receiving information for the Inventory ORG. This information has to do with how inventory is processed once it is received from an outside source, or from an intra-company transfer. It can look something like this:
Make sure to save all your changes as you progress from one screen to another.
