iStore Release 12
Oracle has definitely given iStore Release 12, the much needed face lift with a new look and feel, that the customers have been deparately waiting for.
Some new features that makes it look keeping-upto-web-standards, is the merging of Shipping And Billing Addresses for a B2C user (this is not the case of a B2B user). I remember how we struggled to merge these two pages for the iStore project with Fila (http://www.fila.com). What makes it all the more appealing is some of the standard functionalities it provided, where the customer can click on a checkbox to populate the Billing Address same as that of the Shipping Address.
Additionally, Oracle iStore design/development team made sure that the pages are not cluttered with buttons for ‘Save Cart’, ‘Share Cart’ etc., instead they have a drop down for various choice that a user can make, such as ‘Save to List’, ‘Check Availability’, ‘Direct Item Entry’, ‘Pricing Agreements’ etc. Even ‘Delete Cart’ is a part of the drop down list (DDL). User needs to select from the DDL and click on ‘Go’ to execute the action.
I noticed that the number of JSPs used for iStore, are around 30-40% less than the previous releases. However, my guess is that the effort to customize these JSPs will remain the same.
